An award-winning writer/director/actor, Robyn Paris has written and developed features, television, web series and Virtual Reality programming for numerous production companies. Robyn created, directed and produced eight episodes of the original mockumentary series THE ROOM ACTORS: WHERE ARE THEY NOW? (TRAWATN), which premiered in partnership with Funny or Die (FOD) and then launched on Amazon Prime in 2018-2019. The series was “Top of the Feed” on FOD with Robyn heading up the “Creator Leaderboard” for six weeks straight, with an overall “Funny” rating of 82%. TRAWATN premiered at the Raindance Film Festival and went on to screen at dozens of prestigious film festivals worldwide, including The Independent Television Festival, the Chicago Comedy Film Festival where Robyn won the “Best Director” award and HollyWeb Fest where the series won “Best Ensemble Cast.” The series was nominated for “Best Comedy” at the Vancouver Web Fest,” “Best Original Idea” at the Rio Web Fest, “Best Mockumentary Series” at the Miami Web Fest and screened at the Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts film festival. The show was nominated for three Independent Series Awards in 2018 and won "Best Web Series" at the LA Independent Film Festival.
Robyn wrote/directed/starred in a narrative short, FRUITLESS, currently in post-production and scheduled for release in late 2019. As a writer, Robyn won the Samuel Goldwyn Screenwriting Award, the Harmony Gold Award in Screenwriting, the Jack Nicholson Prize in Screenwriting, the National Association of Theatre Owners of CA/NV Fellowship in Screening, Oliver's Prize in Screenwriting for Children and was nominated for a Humanitas Prize in Screenwriting while a graduate student at UCLA film school. She holds an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA and a BA from Duke University.
Through her production company GlassHouse Entertainment, Robyn raised over $46,000 on Kickstarter to fund TRAWATN. The film on which her series is based, THE ROOM, is widely known as the “Citizen Kane of bad movies” and has inspired a global cult following, and a major motion picture starring James Franco, THE DISASTER ARTIST. Robyn’s series features seven (out of nine) of the original actors from the cult film, including Robyn herself, who plays the character of “Michelle” in THE ROOM.
Robyn’s series generated press in Entertainment Weekly, The Huffington Post, The Hollywood Reporter, PopSugar, Vulture, The Sydney Morning Herald, AVClub, Uproxx, The Mary Sue, Sheknows, Backstage, among many others. She has appeared on dozens of podcasts across the US, the UK and Canada, including Entertainment Weekly Radio on Sirius XM, the Mike and Ming Show (AMC’s Comic Book Men), and Monocle (UK), among many others.
Raised in Greensboro, NC, Robyn started her career in entertainment as an actor and comedic improviser. She has appeared in and written numerous theatrical productions and performed improvisation on teams and at corporate shows with The Second City Chicago, Improv Olympic in Chicago, IO West and The Groundlings.
