ABOUT

An award-winning writer/director, Robyn Paris is one of 9 women selected for the 2021 "Future Directors of Studio Features" initiative sponsored by Blackmagic Collective and reported in Variety.  

 

Robyn created/directed/produced 10 episodes of the mockumentary series, THE ROOM ACTORS: WHERE ARE THEY NOW? The series premiered at Raindance and screened at dozens of prestigious film festivals, like HollyShorts and HBO's ITVFest before premiering in partnership with Funny or Die and amassing 1M+ views. For her series, Robyn won the “Best Director” award at the Chicago Comedy Film Festival, “Best Ensemble Cast”at HollyShorts and "Best Web Series" at the 2020 and 2018 LA Independent Film Festival.  The series stars the real Room actors opposite established comedians like Mindy Sterling, Craig Cackowski and Keith Powell.  The film on which her series is based, THE ROOM, inspired the Oscar-nominated film, THE DISASTER ARTIST.

 

Called “super-talented” (PopSugar), a talent with "moxie and conviction" (LA Times) and “zany and witty” (Tubefilter), Robyn’s work has generated press in Entertainment Weekly, Huffington Post, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, PopSugar and others. She’s appeared on numerous podcasts, including EW Radio on Sirius XM, the Mike and Ming Show and Monocle (UK). Robyn’s projects have been featured on Kickstarter as "Staff Picks," "Projects We Love," and "New and Noteworthy." 

 

Robyn's newest dark comedy narrative short, FRUITLESS, was an official selection at dozens of film festivals in 2020-2021, including Breckenridge, Catalina, Sunscreen, Detroit Shetown, and Lighthouse.  She's currently in pre-production on a family comedy starring legendary comedian, George Wallace, and is attached to direct two feature comedies.

 

As a writer, Robyn has developed features, TV, web series and VR for numerous production companies such as StarThrower Entertainment (“Ingrid Goes West”) and Rocklin/Faust (“Spotlight”). While a grad student at UCLA, she won the Samuel Goldwyn Screenwriting Award, the Harmony Gold Award, the Jack Nicholson Prize, Oliver's Prize in Screenwriting for Kids and was a Humanitas Prize nominee. Her scripts have placed at Austin Film Festival, Screencraft, Page, Stage 32 and numerous other screenwriting competitions.

 

Raised in Greensboro, NC, Robyn has an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA and a BA from Duke University. She was a manager at the prestigious Washington, DC consulting firm, The Advisory Board, before launching a career in entertainment, first as an improvisational actor. She performed improv on house teams and corporate shows with The Second City Chicago, Improv Olympic Chicago, IO West and The Groundlings. Through a hilarious sequence of events, Robyn was portrayed by June Diane Raphael in THE DISASTER ARTIST.
